Born on January 6, 1959, in Huntington, West Virginia, Lisa was the daughter of Abb and Carol Fry. She spent her life dancing, teaching, laughing, loving, leading, and serving others with a generous heart and unwavering faith.
She is survived by her mother, Carol Fry; her husband, John Gugino; her two brothers, Scott Fry (Maricha) and Bernie Fry (Susan); and her two children, Benjamin Henderson (Whitney) and Abigail McDonald (Scotty). She was proud and loving Gigi to her beloved grandchildren, Owen Henderson and Riley McDonald. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved.
Those who knew Lisa will remember her for her caring spirit, infectious laughter, gift for leadership, and flair for making life a little more fun. She loved dancing in the car, telling stories, encouraging others, and helping people become the best versions of themselves. Lisa had a special way of making everyone around her feel seen, valued, and capable.
A devoted Christian, Lisa's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She trusted God through life's joys and challenges and sought to reflect His love through her kindness, compassion, and service to others.
Education was not simply Lisa's profession—it was her calling. Over a distinguished career spanning decades, she touched countless lives as a teacher, instructional leader, administrator, and mentor. She served as an educator at R.E. Lee Middle School, Riverdale Middle School, Morrow High School, and Union Grove High School. She later served as Math Coordinator for Rockdale County Schools, Assistant Principal at Ola High School and Ola Middle School, was the Principal of Locust Grove High School, and an educator trainer for RESA. Through each role, Lisa inspired students, supported teachers, and championed excellence in education.
Lisa earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Tift College and her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. She believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives and dedicated herself to helping students and educators reach their fullest potential.
Above all, Lisa loved her family. She cherished time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who lovingly cared for Lisa throughout her journey, and especially to the compassionate team at Hillcrest Palliative Care for the dignity, comfort, support, and kindness they provided during her final chapter.
