Mr. Lyman Jerome Gill (Jerry) of Locust Grove born on Sept.20, 1938 in Fleming Ga went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2021. Rita Harvey Gill, his wife of 54 years is there waiting on him. He is now in heaven praising the Lord and dancing with her. His parents T.G. and Hettie Gill are also welcoming him.
His siblings are Linda Ousley (John) of Austin Texas and Cheryl Smith Hibbett (Steve) of Richmond Hill Georgia.
His children are Alisa Gill of Richmond Hill Ga., Connie and Jeff Carman of McDonough Ga., and Thomas and Kelley Gill of Locust Grove.
His grandchildren are Douglas Caswell (Toni) and Casey Caswell of Summerville SC., Johnny Carman (Kristin) of Milner Ga, Joey Carman (Cassie) of Dallas Ga, Jimmy Carman of Dallas Texas, Matthew Gill and Carolyn Gill of Griffin GA.
His great grandchildren are Jaclyn, Josie, Zoey and Hazel with two more on the way.
Jerry graduated high school and enlisted in the Marines. After serving in the Marines Jerry joined the Army where he met Rita. They were stationed in Germany for 3 years at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. Jerry and Rita retired from AAFES, the Army Air Force Exchange Service. He was a truck driver and eventually a CDL driving instructor. Jerry also volunteered at the Heritage Park Veterans Museum in McDonough. Rita passed away in 2012 and Jerry had a great friendship with Barbara Estes of Richmond Hill who he had known since childhood.
Jerry had a larger than life personality and made friends easily. He loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen and he had a lot of stories. He liked to read and discuss politics and hear everything that was going with his family.
Those desiring may send contributions to the Veteran's Museum at Heritage Park or the Veteran's Support Group. Both are located in McDonough.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Veterans Wall at Heritage Park in McDonough, Ga on Saturday April 24 at 11:00 am.
