Mrs. Marie Lourdes Morency, aged seventy-two, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, in McDonough, GA, after a period of illness. As Marie looked above, she saw a Band of Angels of Mercy, Coming to Carry Her to her Heavenly Home—Marie smiled and left freely as the Angels of Mercy carried her away; For It Was Well with Her Soul.
Marie Lourdes was born February 22, 1954, to the late Ms. Clarise Pavelous and the late Guerrier Joseph Florvil, in the Republic of Haiti, in the Caribbean Islands. As a teenager, Marie moved to New York. Marie was united in holy matrimony with Joseph G. Morency, December 30, 1975, in New York City where they received their United States Citizenship. Marie and Joseph started their family, resulting in four children and seven grandchildren.
Marie was a devoted Christian, who celebrated her faith with love, passion, and conviction. She committed her life to Christ at an early age. While in New York City, Marie was a member of Temple of Restoration in Brooklyn, NY. Upon her death, Marie was a member of New Covenant Church of the Nazarene in McDonough, GA, after meeting Pastor Saurel Joseph and Co-Pastor Mariante Joseph at a church sponsored Ti Market Marketplace event.
Marie retired from New York City (NYC) Housing Authority and New York City Police Department in 2017, after working for more than twenty-five years. Marie was a lifelong learner and believed in self-development and improvement opportunities. During her work history, Marie received many certifications of achievements, including NYC Human Resources Administration ESL Certificate of Achievement; NYC Dept. of Social Services’ Home Care Services Certification; Wall Street Skill Exchange comprehensive competency training in Microsoft Word; NYC Police Department’s Certification as Police Administrative Aide, among others. Marie loved her work and her co-workers loved her.
Marie was a graduate of Hunter College in NYC and received her master’s degree from Mercy College. She loved books and reading. She also enjoyed diverse types of music. Marie especially loved classical, jazz and gospel music, and occasionally enjoyed listening and dancing to music with her beloved husband, Joseph. Marie instilled the same quest for self-development, learning, culture, and knowledge among her children. She was a woman of culture and class distinction.
After retirement, Marie and her family moved to McDonough, Georgia to enjoy the warm southern hospitality and live a slower paced lifestyle. The atmosphere and climate in McDonough reminded her of her beloved Haiti.
Marie was a woman of grace, dignity, and compassion. She lived a meaningful life, believing in the boundless goodness of people and the potential for goodness within others of lesser character. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She was always willing to help those in need and showed kindness without judgment. Fair-minded and quick to forgive, Marie also had a tender heart for children. She cherished the messages of Biblical scripture in Isaiah 61 and Matthew 25, and her life of giving reflected the lessons found in those passages.
Left behind to cherish fond memories of Marie’s precious life and their time together are her husband, Joseph L. Morency; three devoted sons, Gardy Morency, Handel Morency and Armando Morency; one loving and devoted daughter, Ashley Morency; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Messiah, Jamir, Emanuel, Janice, Dessalines and Ishmael Farrow Morency, who as an infant preceded her in death; and numerous relatives and friends. Marie will always be remembered by her family, her friends, and colleagues as a kindhearted servant leader with a joyful spirit filled with generosity and love.
Marie’s legacy of love and compassion lives on in her husband, Joseph, her children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly, but they find peace in knowing that Marie was carried away by a Band of Angels and she now rests in Heaven with God and her Ancestors.
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
