It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that the family of Avery Marjorie Morgan Miller announces her passing on September 1, 2025, at the age of 99. She left this world peacefully in Covington Georgia, surrounded by those who loved her most. Most of us knew her as Margie or lovingly just Grandmother.
Born on January 16th 1926 in Porterdale Georgia, Margie was the beloved daughter of Ralph William Morgan and Willie Lou Kimbell Morgan. She grew up in McDonough, Georgia, where she developed the values of hard work, faith, and love of family that would guide her throughout her long and beautiful life.
On July 3, 1945, she married the love of her life, Royce O. Miller in Locust Grove Georgia. Together, they built a home filled with love, resilience, and faith. Their marriage, lasting 38 years, was a true example of devotion and partnership, and together they raised one exceptional daughter named Patricia.
Margie found great joy in her role as a mother, grandmother, and especially great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Diane Miller Harton and husband Roy Harton, her grandchildren Robert and Stephanie Ross, Brett and Britney Lathem, Calvin and Amy Adams, Wendell and Angie Strickland plus nine great-grandchildren Avery Ross, Kara Ross, Kate Lathem, Jax Lathem, Callie Lathem, Grace Milham, Maddy Adams, Kaleigh Adams and Sophie Strickland who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Royce Miller and sister Ollie LaRue Morgan. Those who knew Marjorie will remember her for her strong work ethic, family values, dedication to her church, quick wit, and some of the most incredible handmade afghan blankets and quilts. She had a gift for crocheting and she shared that gift freely with those around her. To receive a blanket from her really meant something. She began her work career at 17 with the insurance firm Johnston and Higgins in Atlanta, Georgia and she faithfully remained there until her retirement decades later. Whether she was working with her church, spending time with her great grandchildren, knitting a blanket, telling family stories, or cooking a holiday meal she created moments that will be treasured forever. Faith and community were also central to Margie’s life. She was a dedicated member of New Hope Church in Locust Grove, Georgia. In fact she was proudly their eldest member. Her quiet acts of kindness, encouragement, and service touched countless lives during her active tenure at the church. Family and friends will gather on Thursday at 1:00pm for a visitation. A funeral service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough Georgia, with Pastor Jimmy Vinson presiding. She will be laid to rest at New Hope Church Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her legacy, sharing stories, and lifting one another up in love. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the hospital staff and visiting friends who provided compassion and care and support during her final days. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love, wisdom, and example will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy and values will continue to live on in all those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations to New Hope Church are requested.
