Mary Ellen Brown Lundy, age 72, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away just before 4:00 am Tuesday morning, September 25, 2018, from complications due to lung disease. She was at Duke Medical center in Durham, NC, and had just begun their pulmonary rehabilitation program in hopes of receiving a lung transplant. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Joseph Perley Brown and Flora May Greenwood Brown. Mary Ellen was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She received her master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University as well as her Specialist degree. She taught English, Drama, and Special Education classes for over 40 years at Forest Park High School, North Clayton Junior High School, Jonesboro High School, and Luella High School. She is now at rest with her Savior and reunited with her beloved husband of 47 years, Bobby Gene Lundy. A woman of true compassion and curiosity, to know her was to know the depth of her thoughtfulness and love. She was a great woman of faith and confident in her salvation. An active member of her church, Luella Baptist, she taught Sunday School and directed the choir. Mary Ellen was very close to her family. She taught them by example, showing them the love of God in her very way of being. She made sure they were raised in the church and showed them what it was to have a servant’s heart. She shared with them her love of history, literature, travel, and music. She always showed an interest in what they were doing and taught them to do the same for others. She shared her gifts and time not only with her family, but with her many interests, including the Locust Grove Women’s Club, the Henry County Master Gardeners, the Andrew McBride Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties, and The Henry Players. As a teacher and role model, her legacy continues on in the many lives she has influenced. She will be dearly missed.
