Matthew James Hicks

Matthew James Hicks, age 18, of McDonough, Georgia was called home to his Lord and Savior on October 27, 2016. He was born in Riverdale, Georgia to Mark and Lori Hicks on September 30, 1998. Matthew was a senior in high school and was on track to graduate with the Class of 2017. Matty, as he was known by his family, had a smile that would light up the room. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and shooting his bow. When it came to sports, Matthew was a University of Tennessee fan. He played football and baseball during his sports career; but his passion was found when he was wrestling and competing in Jujitsu Arts with Independent MMA and Fitness. In his spare time, you could find Matthew taking things apart, talking about trucks, working out, or sleeping in the floor. Matthew’s enormous heart, contagious laugh, and joyful personality will be among the many characteristics missed by his family and friends. Matthew leaves behind his parents, Mark and Lori Hicks; brother, Gabriel “Gator” Hicks; grandparents, Arnold and Vivian Hicks; grandmother, Gail Franks; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. His grandfather, Larry Franks, and his uncle, Jamie Franks, preceded him in death. Family and friends will gather for a service to celebrate Matthew’s life on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 beginning at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
