It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Nita Hendricks Sofge, who left us peacefully on April 14th, 2025, surrounded by love. She was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Paul and Annie Hendricks. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Nicholas Sofge and brother Ronald Hendricks.
Nita was survived by her two daughters Hollie Sofge (Brian) McCubbin and Amber Sofge Fowler; four grandchildren Caylin McCubbin (Ben) Wheeler, Jasee Ann Fowler, Brooke Delanie McCubbin and Jason Lamar Fowler Jr; two brothers Eddie (Tiki) Hendricks and Randy Hendricks; one nephew and two nieces Harrison Hendricks, Hallie Hendricks (Brad) Hill and Rhonda Hendricks (Charles) Loper; as well as a number of loving family members and friends including her cousin Kim Gomenis and special friend Virginia Morgan.
Nita was a woman with a heart as big as the sky—caring, selfless, and always thinking of others. She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back without a second thought, and her warmth could be felt by anyone lucky enough to know her. Family meant everything to her. She adored her children and grandchildren, finding her greatest joy in their laughter, stories, and milestones.
A woman of simple pleasures, Nita loved nothing more than settling into her favorite chair to watch television, always ready to share a show recommendation. She was also an enthusiastic Amazon shopper, delighting in finding little treasures and thoughtful gifts for loved ones.
Though there will be no formal service held, we invite you to honor her generous spirit in a meaningful way. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to a The American Diabetes Association (ADA) -- an organization close to her heart.
Her love lives on in the hearts of her family, and her memory will remain a guiding light in our lives.
Rest easy, Mom. You were deeply loved, and you will be dearly missed.
