Robert Walter McCollum, Sr., age 75, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. Robert was born February 4, 1947 in Macon, Georgia to the late Thomas Donahue and Earnie Gertrude Arrington McCollum.
Robert retired from CSX Railroad after over 30 years of service. Robert loved God, his family and life. He loved being close to the water, which fueled his passion for fishing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving. He was an avid gun collector and leatherworks artist, creating many gun holsters for fellow gun enthusiasts. He participated in Civil War and Cowboy reenactments and was a lifetime member of the NRA and SASS (Single Action Shooting Society), a specialty group for Cowboy Action Shooting. Robert also loved to decorate his yard and dress up for Halloween.
Irish stew and cornbread was one of his favorite meals or any home cooked meal from his mother. He also had a hankering for Greek food, Golden Corral, chocolate milkshakes, Blizzards, and Peanut M&M's.
Robert had a smooth baritone voice and would sing to his children when they were young. One Sunday morning while singing in church, a church lady in the pew in front of him turned and commented that he sounded like Elvis, which gave him many melodic years mimicking the King. Robert also had a fantastic sense of humor and a love for animals, especially his Cairn terrier, Gracie and his mohawked buddy, Allie.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy McCollum; children, Lorrie (Allan) Imes, Tonya (Keith) Ferguson and Rob (Barbara) McCollum, Jr.; grandchildren, Taylor (Casey) Goodenow, Robby McCollum, III, Kendall Minshew, Sarah McCollum and Ava Imes; brother, Larry (Debbie) McCollum.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 - 3:00 pm in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the NRA or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Robert.
