Terry Lanier Buchanan

Terry Lanier Buchanan, age 74, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022. Terry was born March 27, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Troy Lee Buchanan and the late Katie Inez Raines Buchanan. Terry was a life-long resident of the Atlanta metro area. He grew up in the Grove Park neighborhood of Atlanta until he was 15 and then he moved with his family to Forest Park, Georgia. He graduated from Forest Park High School, Forest Park, Georgia, in 1966. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era as an avionics mechanic. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from DeKalb Technical College.

Terry was the best of the best technicians that Toyota employed. He went to work for Toyota in 1974. He worked at several Toyota dealerships in the Atlanta area as a technician and at Southeast Toyota as the field service technician for Georgia, Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. Throughout the years Terry won many awards including the Southeast Toyota Distributors Jim Moran Achievement Award. Terry's high level of technical skill and knowledge earned him the accolade of competing as the southeastern representative in the Toyota Master Technician Skills Competition in Long Beach, California many times over the course of his career. In 1993, Terry won 2nd place overall in the skills competition, earning a trip to Japan where he was inducted into the Toyota International Service Champions Society. During his many trips to California, competing in the Master Skills Competition, he was the mechanic on a pit crew during the Toyota Celebrity Grand Prix which was always a highlight of those trips.

Terry gave his life to the Lord at nine years old at Grove Park Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of Rise Above Community Ministries in Jackson, Georgia and served others through ministry and care groups. He enjoyed fishing, all motorsports--most especially NASCAR, racing motocross and building model airplanes. He loved history with his primary focus being the Civil War and World War II. In addition to traveling to California and Japan, he traveled extensively in the southeast, visiting numerous forts, battlefields, and Naval Air Museums combining his love of history with his love of travel. As a ravenous fan of NASCAR, attending the Daytona 500 in 2012 and 2013 were standout trips for Terry.

Terry's family and many friends will miss his knowledge, wit, and cooking. He is beloved and the impact on the lives of those who knew him is immense. We continue on knowing he is at peace and is no longer suffering. We carry love and cherished memories that will sustain us until we are reunited.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, the love of his life, Dee Buchanan; children, Troy (Deanna) Buchanan of Covington, Georgia; Tyler (Ann) Buchanan of Covington, Georgia; Elizabeth (Marc) Garrison of Suwanee, Georgia; and Addison Buchanan of McDonough, Georgia; ten grandchildren; sister, Troyce (Kerry) Lancaster of Jonesboro, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 - 11:00 AM in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit the family Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
