

Born in Sioux City, IA Tom answered the call to duty in July 1955, enlisting in the U.S. Army. Over a distinguished military career spanning decades, he rose through the ranks to retire as a Master Sergeant. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, he embodied the values of discipline, loyalty, and quiet courage. His service to his country was a cornerstone of his life, earning deep respect from all who served alongside him.
Shortly after enlisting, Tom married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Connie (Ives) Calhoun on Christmas Day in 1955. Together, they built a life rooted in love and shared many adventures with their five children.
While he was a disciplined soldier, he was the rock of his family known for his quiet wisdom and love for his family. He was a gentle and present father and was happiest camping and being at the lake with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Connie Calhoun, his parents, Paul and Margaret Calhoun, sister Canice Davidson, sons-in-law Mitch Edge and Robert Doughty, grandson Josh Doughty as well as his beloved dogs, Levi and Lilly.
His legacy lives on through his children, Christy Calhoun (Don), Lori Doughty, Rodney Calhoun (Tina), Carol Harden (Jana) and Marci Ogle (Scott), his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who will all miss their Grandpa/Papa.
A funeral service with military honors will be held to celebrate his life on Monday June15, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Haisten Funerals and Cremations. Inurnment will follow at Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA .
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Thomas Calhoun’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Boys Town Iowa
