Mrs. Velma Ballew Smith, age 85 of McDonough, Georgia passed away July 7, 2015. She was born in Pierceville, Georgia to the late Roy Everett and Annie Mae Bryant Patterson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Edward Ballew and by siblings, Hubert Patterson, Marvin Patterson and Blanche Barton. Velma was a member of Charity Baptist Fellowship and worked for Walmart for 20 years. She enjoyed working, baking, cooking, sewing and crafts. Survivors include her husband, Marvin “Smitty” Smith of Morrow; daughter, Sheila (Chris) Jeffares of McDonough; grandsons, Shannon (Shannon) Wilson of McDonough, Brent (Margaret) Wilson of Hampton; great grandchildren, Brianna, Shanna, Cole, Kylin, Jaclyn and Hayden; sisters, Mildred (Frisco) Duvall of Norcross, Tressie (Fred) Arp of Jenkinsburg; brother, Quinton Patterson of Blue Ridge. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Pastor Chuck Scott will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit the family Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Velma.
