Victoria Elizabeth Poole

She went on to attend Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, back when it was an all-female school, where she played basketball and played the piano.

She took a job in Atlanta at Georgia Baptist Hospital, working as a dietician. And it was there that she met a woman named Thelma Poole who, unbeknownst to my mom at the time, had a son. Thelma, my grandmother played matchmaker, introduced her to Charles Poole, and the two fell in love. They got married on January 29th, in what they always described as an actual blizzard. They were married for 50 years.

They lived in Virginia while my dad worked at the Pentagon, then moved back to Atlanta, living in East Point, then Riverdale, Fayetteville, Georgia and finally after retirement she moved to McDonough, GA. I came along somewhere in the middle of all that moving. Along the way, she took a job at what was then called the Retail Credit Company later known as Equifax and retired from there after thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Poole; her brother, Bill Bates; and her niece, Mary "Boo" Bates. She is survived by her daughter, Charla Poole Turner, and her husband, Michael Turner. Grandchildren: Micha Turner and wife Hope Turner;

Charles Presley Turner and wife Nadia Turner; and Madelyn Turner, fiancé of Josiah Turner. Great-granddaughter: Stella Mae Turner.

She is also survived by her niece, Laura Dunn, and husband Philip Dunn, and their children; nephew Lee Bates and wife Ginny Bates, and their children; nephew Jerry Bates (Bonnie); and other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

The Turner family would like to express their sincere appreciation for every expression of love, sympathy and concern.

Words cannot express the comfort you have given us in our time of bereavement. Know that your prayers for us have turned this season of grief into a season of healing.
