

Mr. Wallace Winburn Hawkins, age 89, of McDonough, GA passed away April 11, 2015. Mr. Hawkins was born in Rutledge, GA the son of the late Clara Teagle Hawkins and Wiley Winburn Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Hawkins in January 2015; siblings, Lois Hawkins, Ruth Cargile and Teagle Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough and the Bob Chick Sunday School Class. He was a mail carrier for the US Postal System for 35 years and the majority of that time was a carrier for what use to be Route 1 in the McDonough area where he enjoyed serving and getting to know the people on his route. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was discharged as a motor machinist Third Class in 1946. He was a member of the Madison Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post 55. Mr. Hawkins was also an Explorer Scout Leader of Post 62. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for his quiet demeanor. Survivors are his sons, Billy Hawkins of Decatur and Roger Hawkins of McDonough; sister, Ethel Dooley of Madison and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Hawkins will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015 – 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in McDonough with Rev. Dr. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8:00 PM.
