Tony's family moved to Stockbridge, GA in 1976. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1984. After graduation, Tony joined the United States Army and served until his retirement in 2006. Tony achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. He was stationed in Germany, Korea, Panama and California. He served tours of duty in Bosnia, Kosovo, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Tony served two tours of duty in Iraq. While in the service, Tony received many awards. He also attended several Culinary Art Schools in Europe to aid him in his job as a Senior Food Operations Non-Commissioned Food Officer.
As a child, Tony vacationed each summer at Sanibel Island, Florida, with his brother, parents, and grandmother Mable. He was a member of Stockbridge United Methodist, where he sang in the teen choir. Tony loved football. He played little league and high school football. He enjoyed watching Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs football. Although he loved football, Tony loved his family more than anything.
After retirement, Tony developed serious health issues which filled his days with doctor's appointments.
God knew Tony was in pain and called him home.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Kyong; daughter, Alexandria; and stepson, Alan, all from McDonough; son, William, of CA; mother, Carol Beaber; father, William (Lois) Hughes of Locust Grove; brother Archie Hughes (Beth) and their two children of Colleyville, TX ; loving aunt, Amy Mattox (J. R. Dick) of Chattanooga, TN; many cousins and friends.
There will be a visitation for Tony on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, GA. A service honoring Tony will be Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel at Haisten Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
