IN THE CARE OF
Haisten Funerals & Cremations
On August 2, 2022, Willie Dee Elkins spent her 94th birthday in a way she always knew would come, standing face to face with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the gates of Heaven. Joining her at this glorious reunion were her parents Dave and Mattie Walker, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, her son David Howard and beloved husband Robert Elkins.
Dee retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after a career that spanned nearly 43 years. She started as a telegraph operator and worked her way to operations manager, even teaching herself Morse Code along the way.
Dee was a devoted member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church. Her church family was very important to her, especially the youngest ones. Her love of children led to her being known as "Grandma" to church preschool.
Dee's greatest love and legacy is her own family. She is survived by her children Bruce (Brenda) Howard, Lisa (Dave) Hobbs and Jeff (Sandy) Elkins. Dee was also blessed with 8 grandchildren; Leslie (Steve), Amanda (Dwayne), Brandy, Austin, Bradford, Ryan, Jennifer (Jason) and Keith as well as great grandchildren Luke, Jimmy, Caleb, Emma, Tori, Dawson and 2 great great grands. Dee is also survived by her siblings Frances Duncan, Charles (Sandra) Walker and Mary Fransioli.
A celebration of Dee's life will be held on Sunday August 7, 2022 at Locust Grove United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made to the Locust Grove United Methodist Church Preschool.
