

Albert and Alice Wilson, longtime McGregor residents, went home to be with their Lord, Sunday, November 6, 2011. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 11, 2011, at College Avenue Baptist Church, 201 South Monroe Street, McGregor with Reverend David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Cole Funeral Home.
Alice was born October 25, 1926, in Haworth, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Luther Oscar and Lena (Provence) Farley. She was a 1944 graduate of Idabel High School in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. She continued her education at Southwestern State Teachers College in Durant, Oklahoma. On May 19, 1945, she married Albert Raymond Wilson in Durant, Oklahoma.
In 1957, she moved to McGregor from Borger, Texas. For about sixteen years, she, along with her husband Albert, owned and operated Glamour Circle Beauty Shop in McGregor. Alice was an active member of the McGregor Garden Club where she served six years as president and was recently recognized as president emeritus. She was a member of the McGregor Chamber of Commerce and in 2000 was honored and recognized by them as Citizen of The Year. Being the out-going person she was she was a supporter and deliverer of Meals on Wheels with the Central Texas Senior Ministry. Alice enjoyed helping others and serving her Lord. She was an active member of College Avenue Baptist Church where she taught seventh and eighth graders, assisted with vacation Bible School, served as a greeter, was always available to serve on various committees and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Ernest Farley; three sisters, Alma Hamilton, Thelma Cooke, Helen Hendrix and a grandson, Jason Albert Swepston.
Albert was born March 27, 1924, in Electra, Texas, the son of the late Henry Wesley and Lillie Ann (Gray) Wilson. He completed school in 1942 at Utica High School in Durant, Oklahoma. On May 19, 1945, he married Mary Alice Farley in Durant, Oklahoma. After sixty-six years of marriage, she preceded him in death, November 6, 2011. While living in Borger, Texas, he was employed by Phillips Refinery before being transferred to McGregor in 1957. In 1981, he retired from Hercules as a welder. During World War II, he was in the CC Camp and was a member of the AFLCIO for forty-two years. Just as with Alice, Albert was at her side helping her with garden club affairs. He served on the McGregor Housing Authority Board for many years and as president. He was an active member of College Avenue Baptist Church where he was a trustee, taught training union and served as a greeter. He was an outdoor person who enjoyed a relaxing day of boating and fishing.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Bud Wilson, Rayburn Wilson; a sister, Jo Murry and grandson, Jason Albert Swepston.
Survivors include their daughters; Mary McEvers and husband Karl of Arlington, Judy Swepston and husband Danny of Canyon, Paula Owen and husband Mike of McGregor; five grandchildren, Jarrod Jackson, Kristi Kane, Wade Swepston, Craig Owen, Julie Swepston; twelve great grandchildren, Preston Dutton, Corey Holmes, Austin Kane, Joseph Reynero, Callan Holmes, Jake Owen, Josh Reynero, Jayson Swepston, Wilson Jackson, Bailey Owen, Eryn Swepston and Fisher Jackson.
Also surviving Alice at the time of her death was her husband Albert; two sisters, Dale Valentine of Idabel, Oklahoma and Leota Smith of Irving. In addition to Albert’s survivors are a brother, Earl Wilson of Santa Fe, New Mexico; three sisters, Marie Harris of Durant, Oklahoma, Dorothy Roper of Kansas City, Kansas and Sue Brown of Phoenix, Arizona.
