

Alfred Pomerenke of McGregor died Monday afternoon, April 4, 2011, at the age of 77. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Pat Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Pomerenke was born July 12, 1933, the son of the late Alfred Christian and Effie Wilma (Reed) Pomerenke. He began his education at Highland and attended McGregor High School. On November 6, 1953, he married the former Betty Goodwin in Waco. Much of his life was spent as a truck driver and a maintenance man for the McGregor Milling and Grain until his retirement in 2000.
Mr. Pomerenke, a life-long McGregor area resident, served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. He was a former member of the McGregor Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed fishing, hunting, farm animals and vegetable gardening.
Also preceding hin in death was a brother Fred Pomerenke.
Survivors include his wife Betty Pomerenke; two sons, Bruce Pomerenke and wife Kathy of Oglesby, Steve Pomerenke and wife Cheryl of McGregor; a daughter Dana Pomerenke of Jones Creek; a brother, Lynn Pomerenke of McGregor; two sisters, Delores “Sis” Johnson, Anita “Nicky” Burgess and husband J.B. both of McGregor; five grandchildren, Tammy Fleming, Tyson Charlson, Mindy Pomerenke, Zeb Pomerenke, Zach Pomerenke and a great granddaughter, Olivia Fleming.
Casketbearers will be Tyson Charlson, Tommy Norwood, Alan Pomerenke, Zach Pomerenke, Zeb Pomerenke and Jim Yost.
