Daniel Bain Gates Sr.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00a.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 at Cole Funeral Home with Brother Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Eagle Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Daniel was born March 3, 1931 in Coryell County, Texas to Oscar and Sophie (Lovejoy) Gates. He graduated from Clifton High school in 1949 and entered the United States Air Force the year after. Daniel spent five years in the Air Force receiving the Occupation Medal with German Clasp, National Defense Service Medal and the Good conduct Medal. During his service overseas in Germany, he met the love of his life, Martha Hilda Graber, they were married in 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Daniel was a Radio Mechanic later becoming an Electronic Technician. He worked at Baylor and later Hercules in McGregor up until his retirement.

Daniel had an unwavering faith in God and he loved to serve the Lord. He was a faithful church goer and will be remembered for his Love of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 45 years, Martha Gates; four brothers; son, Alex Rostockyj; grandsons, Johnny Gates and Taylor Leggett; son-in-law, Harvey Merritt.

Survivors include his children, Rose Thompson and husband Calvin, Vince Rostockyj and wife Harriet, Heidi Merritt, Heinz Gates and wife Esther, Dan Gates, Jr. and wife Vicki, Lois Leggett and husband Bruce and Mike Gates; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
