Donald Carl Lillard of McGregor passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, April 19, 2013 in Temple, TX. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23rd from 6-8 P.M. at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 24th at 2 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor.
Donald was born April 16, 1946, in Waco, Texas to Carl and Kathleen (Cotharn) Lillard. He graduated from McGregor High School and the Waco Police Academy. He married Carolyn Wiethorn on June 28, 1968. Donald served 34 years in the Waco Police Department in the patrol and detective divisions. He retired from service in August of 2000. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as a member of the choir, church council, church president, youth sponsor, and various boards throughout the years. Family was very important to Donald. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and being involved in their lives was a priority for him. He loved his community and attended as many sporting events as possible. He loved his Bulldogs and was a Bulldog Booster for numerous years. He always had a positive outlook on life no matter the circumstance. His determined spirit and unmatched strength in every situation were noticed by all that knew him. Donald leaves a legacy of selfless love and integrity to his family and friends that will be forever treasured.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Kathleen Lillard, and father in law, Alfred Wiethorn.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son David Lillard and wife Tammy; daughter, Dana Essex and husband Bryan; son, Kevin Lillard; daughter, Tammy Lewis and husband Jason; grandchildren, Paige, Audrey, Chase, Logan, Bryce, Abby and Madison; sisters, Norma Cooper and husband Jim, Shirley Stone and husband Jimmy Dan; brother, Roger Lillard and wife Jo D; brother-in-law, Curtis Wiethorn and wife Neta; brother-in-law, Kenneth and wife Tami; mother in law, Helen Wiethorn; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Wiethorn, Ryan Wiethorn, Clark Wiethorn, Lance Wiethorn, Michael Cooper, Neil Ling, Beau Nickel, and Robert Kunze.
