Elvie Durrence of McGregor died Sunday morning, December 2, 2012, at the age of 79. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Comanche Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Durrence was born March 30, 1933, in Claxton, Georgia, the son of the late Roy and Idell (Todd) Durrence where he attended Daisy School. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army for a few years. He was a member of the Bryant Oliver Post of the American Legion Post 273 in McGregor. After his honorable discharge, he made McGregor his home where he met and married Annie Lorene Pollard, June 15, 1955. After twenty-three years of marriage, she preceded him in death April 15, 1979.
For thirty years he was employed by Owens Illinois Glass Plant in Waco as a machine operator.
In his spare time, Elvie enjoyed tinkering with cars and riding around sightseeing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Darrell Durrence of McGregor; two daughters, Annette Wendeborn and husband Brian of Gatesville, Judy Riley and husband Tommy of McGregor; a brother, Clifford Durrence of Lake Navarro Mills; six grandchildren, Ronnie Geeslin, Mandy Worthington, Brandy Hill, Brandon Geeslin, Tommie Sulgrove, Josh Riley and twenty great grandchildren.
