Ferne Elizabeth Morris

Ferne Elizabeth Morris, born August 26, 1926, passed away on September 14, 2019. She was born in Oglesby (Station Creek), Texas, to Chester and Venda (Pennington) Herbert. Ferne was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Ann Herbert and Edith Grimes; half-sisters, Lois Alexander and Joyce Biggers; son, Douglas Ray Massey; and husband, Jack Morris.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon McDaniel and husband, Doug, Joan Mauldin and husband, David, all of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren Julie Dallison and husband, Everett, Angie Campbell and husband, Darrell, Ross McDaniel and wife, Alyssa, all of League City, Texas, Jana Kilishek and husband, Tom of Plano, Texas, and Jamie Mauldin of Austin, Texas. She is survived by 10 great grandchildren, Morgan, Rylee, Lexie, Trace, Carson, Ian, Cade, Troy, Cortland, and Everlee.
Ferne is also survived by her step-daughter Patricia Lynn DeLuca and husband, John of Fairview; step-son, Rick Morris and wife, Karen of Salado; step-grandchildren Jason DeLuca, Kristen Morris, Ryan Morris and wife, Heather; and step-great grandchildren Gracie, Ashton, Parker, Caiden, Chloe, Bronx, and Jack Legend.
She also leaves behind numerous family members and friends.
Ferne spent her childhood in Oglesby and Amarillo, Texas, where her father worked as baker, before the family moved to Brooklyn, New York. At age 15, after her father’s sudden passing, Ferne, her mother, and sister moved back to Oglesby where she graduated from high school. She then moved to Houston, Texas where she worked as a model and office assistant at the Alaskan Fur Company. After various moves across the gulf coast, Ferne and her children settled in Pearland, Texas, where she lived until 1980, when she married her love, Jack Morris, and returned to Oglesby, Texas. There, she became an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Oglesby, supported Baylor sports, and worked as an office assistant for Jack’s companies. They also began exploring the great American West, where she in love with Native American art, jewelry, and pottery. Later, Ferne and Jack moved to Friendswood, Texas. Ferne then became an avid and dedicated Astros fan.
She was a loving, generous, and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be missed dearly by all fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Home, McGregor, Texas. The service will be directly after the visitation, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
