Gary Ellis Franks

On Sunday, May 19, 2019, Gary Ellis Franks, Sr., loving husband and father of four, went to be with the Lord at age 70. The funeral mass will be at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019, Cole Funeral Home 1113 West 5th St. The Rosary will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lunch will be provided, for family and friends, at St. Eugene Catholic Church Hall, 207 Johnson Drive, McGregor, Texas, immediately after the service.

Gary was born March 21, 1949, in Decatur Alabama to Hubert Franks and Wilder Lee Hulsey Franks. He grew up and attended school in Rosamond High School in California. On January 15, 1970, Gary was drafted to the Army where he served in Vietnam, in the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, and 25th Infantry Division 96225, until April 21, 1975. While in the army, Gary received several awards including the Vietnam Service medal with 3 Bronze service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a medal for being a Rifle Marksman. On June 11, 1971, he married the love of his life, Raymunda Luna Franks, in Waco, TX. They moved to California where they lived for 2 years, then to Oklahoma, and back to Texas. Gary worked for the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Waco for 25 years in the maintenance department. In his spare time Gary enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycles, and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Franks.

Survivors include his wife, Raymunda Luna Franks; son Gary Franks, Jr. and sons Cody and Carson; daughter, Chelsea; son, Christopher Franks and sons Blake and Braxon and daughter Kaelyn; son, Joseph Franks and wife, Amanda; daughter, Paige and son Blake; son, James Franks and wife, Brandi and sons Jameson, Joshua, Colby, and Julian and daughters Mariana and Hailey; great granddaughter, Florien; mother Wilder Franks; brothers Steve Franks, Milton Franks, Danny Franks, and Richard White.
