

A graveside service for Gay Evelyn Scheele Buro will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the City Cemetary of McGregor, TX. Chaplin Gary Baxley of Gentiva Hospice will officiate. Services and arrangements are being directed by Cole Funeral Home of McGregor, TX.
Evelyen was born July 25, 1932 in Oglesby, Texas to E. J. (Eldon John) and Eva Sanders Scheele. The family lived on their farm near Oglesby. Evelyn was a graduate of Oglesby High School, and she also attended Durham Business College in Waco, TX. She married Walter Thomas Buro on June 2, 1951, and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary in June, 2013. Their only child, Richard W. Buro, was born on August 31, 1953. They were active in ministries associated with St. Paul United Methodist Church, including Sunday School teaching and sponsors for the Methodist Youth Fellowship which became the United Methodist Youth during their tenure. Evelyn also served as Sunday School Superintendent during her membership. She was also active in the United Methodist Women and served on several church administrative committees.
Evelyn worked in various jobs starting around the family's farm. As she grew older, she participated in sports at school where she competed on the Oglesby High School ladies' basketball team. After post-high school training in business operations, Evelyn used her business skills to first help out in the family's dry cleaners, Walt's Tailor Shop, located on 25 th Street between Adams and Central Avenues in Temple. She helped out with a business delivery service and finally was employed by Gresham's assisting with the publishing of two trade journals for the travel accommodations and the public water systems industries. She was also active in the Parent Teachers Associations at the schools where Richard was a student. She continued with Gresham's until she and Walter moved to the Metroplex. After their move, Evelyn went work at the city offices in Grand Prairie, TX.
In 1992, Evelyn and Walter moved back to the Temple area. They renewed their membership with St. Paul where Evelyn was active in many of the church committees and the United Methodist Women where she served for several years as treasurer.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her brother, Clarence Scheele and his family of Oglesby, her son, Richard Buro, her daughter-in-law, Rita Baggett Buro, and a granddaughter, Robyn L. Buro, all of Temple. She will be buried in the City of McGregor Cemetery, McGregor, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gentiva Hospice, Park Place Manor in Belton, TX, St. Paul United Methodist Church in Temple, TX, or any other charitable organization of your choice.
