Born in Gatesville, Texas, on October 6th, 1953, Glenda spent nearly her whole life in
Oglesby, where she built a home filled with love, laughter, and the smell of good
cooking.
Glenda was the devoted wife of David Vandiver and a loving mother to her two sons,
Cole Vandiver and wife Holly, and Chase Vandiver. She especially cherished her role as
“Gigi” to her grandchildren, Elijah Vandiver and Jaycee Vandiver, who were the light of
her life, whom she called her “little rays of sunshine.”
Glenda had a deep love for sweet tea, a good book, and quiet moments spent with
family. A passionate reader, she devoured thousands of books over the years and found
joy in stories of all kinds. She also enjoyed cooking and was happiest when surrounded
by the people she loved most.
She retired as a mailroom supervisor from the TDCJ Hughes Unit, where she worked 20
years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd T. Bankhead and Gladys Virginia
Bankhead; her sisters, Sue Wilcox, and Genieva Silaff; and brother-in-law, Bill Silaff.
Glenda will be laid to rest at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby, TX, in a private family
service.
She will be remembered for her quiet strength, generous spirit, warm smile, and the
love she gave so freely.
"In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Waco Humane Society or St. Jude.”
