

Gloria Ann Shelton of Hewitt, Texas, passed away on April 9, 2026 just one day shy of her 85th birthday, following a brief illness. Gloria was born on April 10, 1941 to J.W. and Joyce Shelton in Winnsboro, Texas. She attended Mt. Vernon High School and obtained her cosmetology license in Houston, Texas where she enjoyed decades as a hairdresser, while raising her two children. Gloria was very active in her local church and especially enjoyed singing in church choirs where she participated in Easter cantatas and Christmas performances. She loved music and enjoyed having family and friends gather in her home around her piano singing “oldies” and hymns, followed by a homemade dessert “a la Gloria”. Outside of work and home, Gloria invested her time in 12 step programs for families and developed a passion for others which lead her to earn her Christian Counseling Certificate. Also, Gloria was a student of the Bible and loved reading and gardening. She spent her retirement years in Central Texas enjoying her family and church communities.
Known for her kind spirit and love of Jesus, Gloria will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is pre-deceased by her father, J.W. Shelton; mother, Joyce Shelton; step-mother, Jean Shelton and brother, James Shelton. She is survived by two sisters, Michelle McKinley (Rob) and Sharon Dresh, her daughter, Donna Taylor (Kirk) and her son, Kent Rich; grandson, Austin Taylor (Jessica), granddaughter, Kirsten Gerdes (Laine); 4 great grandchildren – Jay, Abigail, Jameson and Jordan Taylor and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on April 26, 2026 at 1pm at Brazos Meadows Baptist Church, 625 S. Hewitt Drive, Hewitt, Texas 76643. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brazos Meadows Baptist Church or a charity of your choice in Gloria’s honor.
