Helen Lina of Lorena, formerly of McGregor died early Monday morning, September 26, 2011, at the age of 76. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 South Tyler Street, McGregor, Texas with Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8P.M. Wednesday at Helen’s home in Lorena.
Mrs. Lina born November 1, 1934, in Rogers, Texas, the daughter of the late Raymond Frank and Elise Victoria (Nordhausen) Hampel. As a young girl she moved to McGregor where she was a 1952 graduate of McGregor High School and later attended 4-C Business College in Waco. On March 19, 1955, she married Joe Charles Lina at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor. After fifty years of marriage, he preceded her in death January 4, 2006.
Much of Helen’s life was spent as a secretary in the education field. She was employed by Rio Brazos Education Corp., McLennan County Department of Education and Midway ISD. In 1993, she retired after devoting over twenty years to the secretarial profession.
Helen was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor where in earlier years, she taught Sunday School in the Jr. Department, served as an officer in Luther League, and vice president of the Austin Luther League Federation. She was also a former president of the Mi-Lady Corsage Club. Quilting was her passion. She made close to 300 quilts which she gave as gifts to many family members, friends as well as to Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Charles Lina and wife Bonnie, Richard Carl Lina and wife Sheila all of Lorena; a daughter, Kathy Marie Lina of Lorena; a brother, Albert Hampel and wife Diane of Waco; a sister Mary Ann Lippe and husband Henry of Lorena; five grandchildren, Kelsey Batchelor and husband Ryan, Brandon Lina, Briana Lina, Bradley Lina, Benjamin Lina and one great granddaughter, Abigail Batchelor.
