

Jean Butler of Lorena died late Tuesday night, December 11, 2012, at the age of 80. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Reverend William Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Viewing will commence at 9:00 A.M. Friday with a formal visitation from 6 to 8 P.M. at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Butler was born January 7, 1932, in Palacious, Texas, the daughter of the late Jessie Columbus and Tennie Ester (Hays) Robertson. In 1964 she moved to Waco from Valley Mills and later to Lorena in 1968. In June of 1964, she married William James Butler in Valley Mills. After twenty-seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1991. For about nine years, she owned and operated Valley Mills Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1972.
Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lorena where she served as a past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed quilting and ceramics, which she taught in her home.
Also preceding her in death was a step-son, Lynn James Butler.
Survivors include two sons, Burlie Simons and wife Brenda of Putnam, David Simons and wife Bobbie of Valley Mills; a daughter, Brandy Pence of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The family extends their appreciation to the wonderful caring staff and Mr. Tommy Carter of Quality Care Nursing Home and the staff of Blue Bonnet Hospice.
