Judith Ann Strickland
January 13, 1953 – October 10, 2019
Heaven’s choir added a new alto member, Judith Ann Strickland, 66, on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Judith was born on January 13, 1953, in Brownfield, Texas, to Cecil Eual Strickland and Mary Nadine Strickland. She grew up in Plains, Three-Way, Dimmitt, and Dumas, Texas, where her dad served as a Baptist preacher. She graduated from Dumas High School and Howard Payne University.
Judith’s career began as a staff member of First Baptist Church Lubbock. She then moved to Crenshaw, Dupree, and Milam Law Firm, then to the City of Lubbock Attorney’s Office, and finally to Municipal Court as a legal secretary, where she served the community and mentored many legal assistants and law students. After retiring from the City of Lubbock, in 2009, Judith returned to work in the Lubbock County District Clerk Office where she remained a dedicated employee, until recent health issues prevented continuation. One of Judith’s greatest joys was singing in the First Baptist Church Lubbock choir, several quartets, musical groups, and travelling on Mission Trips, allowing her beautiful voice to serve our Lord. When she wasn’t working or singing she was supporting her favorite teams, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Eual Dean Strickland and Marcus Strickland.
Judith leaves behind a brother, Robert Strickland, of Lubbock; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Strickland, of Ft. Worth and Norma Strickland Briggs, of Amarillo. She will also be missed by her nephews and nieces, Rickey, Randy, Rod, Les and Greg Strickland, Radeanna Strickland Katz, Jordan Strickland Morris, Melissa Strickland Pace-Russel; their families; and enumerable cousins and dear friends.
Family visitation is scheduled from 9:00-10:30 a.m., Friday, October 18, 2019, at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West 5th Street, McGregor, TX. Judith will be laid to rest beside her parents in the Osage Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2019, First Baptist Church Chapel, Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be given to a favorite charity
