Julio Mendez Sr.

Julio Zaldivar Mendez, 85, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Moody, Texas. He was welcomed into eternal rest, surrounded by love and guided by grace—reunited in joy and peace with those who went before him.

Born on April 12, 1940, in Chalchihuites, Zacatecas, Mexico, Julio was the beloved son of Anastacio Mendez and Juana Zaldivar. From a young age, he embraced a life of hard work, tending to his family’s ranch—herding cattle, planting crops, and caring for the land. He began working at just five years old, forming the strong, determined character that would define him for the rest of his life.

In 1967, Julio and his beloved wife of 45 years, Aurora Rubi Mendez, immigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream. They worked tirelessly to provide a better life for their family and built a lasting legacy rooted in love, sacrifice, and resilience.

Julio was a longtime member of the McGregor, Texas, community, where he found lasting friendship and fellowship. He was a devoted member of St. Eugene Catholic Church until moving to Temple, Texas, in 2006. There, he joined Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he was known to never miss a Sunday morning Mass—always seated at the very first service.

An avid outdoorsman, Julio found great joy in working with his hands. Whether in the garden or finding small tasks to complete, he was always moving, always serving. Labor was his love language—giving of himself freely and without hesitation. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, especially his great-grandchildren, his little "pajaritos," who kept his spirit young and his heart full.

Julio was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished wife Aurora, his sister Francisca Mendez Acevedo brothers Guadalupe Mendez, and Martin Mendez, and his daughter Maria Cristina Mendez.

He is survived by his brothers Manuel and Florencio Mendez; his sons Alberto, Julio Jr., and Geraldo Mendez, and Alejandro Torres; as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family—all of whom loved him deeply and will miss him beyond measure.

Julio’s life was a testament to living with purpose, loving with your whole heart, and cherishing those who matter most. His faith was unwavering, and he lived each day with his eyes on the Savior—knowing that, when the time came, he would be carried home.

En 1967, Julio y su amada esposa de 45 años, Aurora Rubi Méndez, emigraron a los Estados Unidos en busca del sueño americano. Trabajaron incansablemente para proporcionar una vida mejor para su familia y construyeron un legado duradero arraigado en el amor, el sacrificio y la resistencia.

Julio fue miembro de la comunidad McGregor, Texas, donde encontró una amistad y compañerismo duraderos. Era un miembro devoto de la Iglesia Católica St. Eugene hasta que se mudó al Templo, Texas, en 2006. Allí, se unió a la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, donde se sabía que nunca se perdió una misa del domingo por la mañana, siempre sentado al primer servicio.

Un ávido hombre al aire libre, Julio, encontró una gran alegría en trabajar con sus manos. En el jardín o encontrando pequeñas tareas para completar, siempre se movía, siempre sirvió. El trabajo era su lenguaje amoroso, dando vueltas libremente y sin dudarlo. Sus momentos más felices los pasaron rodeados de una familia, especialmente sus bisnietos, sus pequeños "pajaritos", que mantuvo su espíritu joven y su corazón lleno.

Julio fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres, su apreciada esposa Aurora, su hermana Francisca Méndez Acevedo, el hermanos Guadalupe Méndez, y Martin Mendez, y su hija Maria Cristina Méndez.

Le sobreviven sus hermanos Manuel y Florencio Méndez; sus hijos Alberto, Julio Jr. y Geraldo Mendez, y Alejandro Torres; Además de sus muchos nietos, bisnietos, sobrinas, sobrinos y familia extendida, todos los cuales lo amaban profundamente y lo extrañarán sin medida.
