Lucia Alderete Anaya of McGregor died Saturday night, March 5, 2011, at the age of 89. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Jose Luis as celebrant. Interment will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor.
Mrs. Anaya was born January 9, 1922, in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of the late Narcisso and Tomasa (Ramirez) Alderete where she attended school. She met and later married Jose Anaya September 27, 1952 in McGregor. After twenty-three years of marriage, he preceded her in death August 31, 1976. For five years she was employed by Westview Manor Nursing Home and later with Moody Care Center for five years. In 1978 she began working at Smead Manufacturing on the assembly line until her 1991retirement.
Mrs. Anaya, along with her husband, Jose, were founding members of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church where in earlier, years was a member of the Altar Society. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with her children, teaching them the art of Mexican cooking and sharing with then her talent of crocheting. She enjoyed music and playing the Harmonica for her family and friends at Regent Care Center.
Also preceding her in death was an infant son, Juan Luis Anaya, her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, Juan Anaya and wife Tracie of McGregor; three daughters, Diana McMaster and husband Roger of Olympia, Washington, Bea Kruse and husband Larry of Harker Heights, Teresa Yaun and husband Kelvin of McGregor; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Active casketbeares were David Kruse, Jacob Kruse, Larry Kruse, Kelvn Yaun, Jordan Ledbetter and Garrete Hawthorne. Honorary casketbearer was Marcos Yaun.
