A private family service will be Wednesday, February 12 at 10am at Cole Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven- Earthman Cemetery in Houston. Services will not be scheduled for the grave site.
Melba was born in Diana, TX to James Roy and Neva Covin on July 9, 1932. The family relocated to Houston in 1949. Melba worked and retired from The American Can Company. She had many friends in Houston. She joined her son John, moving to central Texas in 1996. Together they bought property that included a historical log house near Crawford, Texas. Melba had a “green thumb” and loved planting flowers and watching them grow and bloom. She was a gifted and talented artist and could make a canvas come alive with her vivid imagination. Her paintings grace the walls in the homes of many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her son, James (Jimmy) Blaylock; parents, James Roy and Neva Covin and brother Calvin Covin. Melba is survived by her devoted son, John Gleason who was also her closest friend, caretaker and champion in making her days peaceful during her long illness; brother, Audie Covin of Baytown, sister RoyLou Greenwood and husband Willie of Gatesville, and sister Jo Renae Evans and husband Christopher of Walnut Springs. Melba also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that loved her very much.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a contribution be made to the charity of your choice.
