Mike Aviles

December 10, 1973October 4, 2020

Mike Aviles was born on December 10, 1973 in Gatesville, Texas to Lionel and Santos Aviles.

Mike graduated from McGregor High School in 1993. He married the love of his youth, Lori Olvera on September 14, 1996. They had three children, Natalie, Ezra, and Zion Aviles.

Mike was the son of a pastor and was raised in church, where he learned music at a very young age. He was a multi-talented musician who played piano, bass, and guitar. He was a member of Christian City Band for 18 years. Although he loved music, his true passion was sharing the word of God.

Mike was an active member of The Bethlehem Christian Church where he served as a youth pastor for ten years. He also served as a Sunday school minister and later became the associate pastor. Many came to know Christ through his ministry.

Although Mike was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, in August 2018, it didn’t keep him from doing the things that were important to him, such as attending his kids’ school events, church services, or continuing to minister behind the pulpit. Mike's priorities were Christ first, then his family. Even in the hardest moments of his battle, he found strength to give God praise and he never gave up. He always persevered.

My deepest condolences to Lori and the entire family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Mike was always such a great person and an amazing youth leader. All the memories I have of traveling with the church and going to fun activities, concerts, and conventions are tied to Mike and Lori. Thank you for all the great memories. May God help you all through these tough times.

To the Aviles family. Your family was one of the first families that I saw making an impact in such great ways in this community. Your beautiful daughter as our Miss McGregor took my daughter under her wing for a short time as she transitioned to McGregor High School. I am so sorry for this painful journey that you have had to travel. I am beyond words for your loss and have been keeping you in my prayers for a long time and will continue. God is mysterious but his plans are good and joy will peek in on you through this. God bless you and keep you and hold you. Dinah. Mills
