

Minnie Gauer of Crawford went to be with the Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011, at the age of 97. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Canaan Baptist Church in the Prairie Chapel Community west of Crawford under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. Jerry Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Cemetery. Viewing will commence Friday morning with a formal visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gauer was born June 21, 1914, in the Prairie Chapel community, the youngest child of A.J. and Lydia (Engelbrecht) Weber, where she attended school. Mrs. Gauer accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1926 at the age of 12 and followed in believers’ baptism. On November 16, 1935, she married Walter Gauer at the Canaan Baptist Church. After fifty-five years of marriage, he preceded her in death on November 2, 1991. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband on the family farm and ranch throughout her life. Mrs. Gauer lived on the same land on which she was born until, at the age of 90 moved to Westview Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Gauer was a life-long member of the Canaan Baptist Church, serving her Lord faithfully in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and teaching the Sunday School Children’s Beginners Class and Vacation Bible School for many years. She loved her family, friends and community and enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and all the blessings of living in the country.
Mrs. Gauer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, a sister, Meta Spross and a brother, Albert Weber.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Gauer and wife Sandra of Crawford; two grandsons, Rick Gauer of Crawford and Russell Gauer and wife Jennifer of Whitney; one great granddaughter, Jaedyn Gauer of Whitney; one great grandson, Peyton Gauer of Whitney; two sister-in-laws, Edna Gauer of Waco, Thelma Meyer of Crawford and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of Westview Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave Mrs. Gauer.
