Patricia “Patti” Jones, age 77 passed away Friday, August 31, 2024, in Crawford, Texas. Graveside services will be held at her final resting place, Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Crawford Cemetery, Crawford, Texas. Patti was a long-time and proud resident of Crawford.
Patti was born on July 21, 1947, to Walter and Gwen Roberts in Temple, Texas. Patti, loved her roots in Temple, and graduated from Temple High School in 1965. Patti then moved on to Mary Hardin Baylor, now er University of Mary Hardin Baylor, where she graduated early from the school of education. Patti substitute taught and was hired by Belton ISD where she served hundreds of children and their learning for over 30 years. Patti taught at all grade levels, but she loved the second graders most. She was a lifelong resident of Central Texas.
Patti, or Momma to many, loved other people. She was always the house to go to when her daughter was in high school. She was THAT mom that Rhea’s friends called Momma. She was always willing to be the eagle-eyed chaperone, uber careful carpool driver, epic snack maker, and the mischievous snickerdoodle maker. Her Rhea of Sunshine was her world, and she did not ever fail to show how much she loved being a Mom. She loved her son-in-law Robert very much and she is the only person in the world that was allow to call him, “Rob” instead of Robert. They had a special relationship that allowed her to know that all was well for her “sunshine”.
Even though Patti was a big sister, she loved “baby bro.” Their devotion to one another over the years was one of a shared past and familial bond. She never ceased to talk about her pride in him and his successes. She was so proud of him and his accomplishments in business and in his personal life with his wife Joan and their children.
Patti endured a great deal of health problems in recent years, especially after the passing of her beloved. It is likely she felt she could slow down enough to notice that she did feel well, as before that, she was devoted and ever present for Bobby. Her devotion was the honor of her life, and she never failed to tell folks how blessed she was to have found love like she shared with him. The two of them acted like teenagers until the very end, as she called him “Big Man” and he called her “Baby”.
Patti was a Christian, and as such, she is in the arms of the heavenly father. She took great comfort that she was going to see Bobby when her time was finished. Let us rejoice in the reunion that occurred with Patti, Bobby, Walter, Aunt Barbara and Mabel May. Many friends and other family were likely there as well just to make sure that everything went off without a hitch. As we all know, Momma always loved having class.
Patti is preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert “Bobby” Jones, her revered father Walter Roberts, her rock Grandmother Mable May Roberts, and many other extended family members by blood and by love who she held close to her heart.
Survivors include her daughter, Rhea Brooks Bell, son in law, Robert Bell, granddaughter, Savannah Bell Grandusky, her brother, Walter Andrew Roberts IV, his wife Joan Roberts, and many family members and friends who she loved beyond words.
