

Raydean Brown Damon, age 92 of Crawford, Texas, passed away on June 18, 2025, in Waco, Texas. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Crawford Methodist Church in Crawford with Reverend Joyce Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the church.
Raydean, daughter of Raymond and Myrtle Brown, was born on March 16, 1933, in a small farmhouse near Rhineland, Texas. She is at peace with her passing. Raydean said, “Everyone, including God, told her it would happen one day”, she believed, and knew that everything she ever dreamed would happened, and she was happy to have been given a wonderful life.
She graduated from Seymour High School in 1951. While attending NTSU, she met and married the love of her life, James Elliott Damon who was attending University of North Texas. They married in December of 1952. They moved to Port Arthur, Texas where James coached, and Raydean worked in the Port Acres School. Then they moved to James’s hometown, Crawford, Texas and later in Moody, James coached all sports and taught many subjects until 1955. Cynthia Kay Damon was born December 7, 1953. Jamie Damon was born March 31, 1965.
She completed her college education at McLennan Community College and the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor, graduating in 1981.
Raydean's first high school teaching assignment was in Gatesville, where she taught special education. Later, in Crawford High School and Elementary, she taught special education and art. Raydean loved her students. She enjoyed retirement, and dearly enjoyed loving and caring for my children, Cindy, Jamie and husband, Keith Burnett, and grandson, Monty Burgess and granddaughter, Kristi and Bill Hunter and grandson, Caidon Livingston.
She said, “Life was Great! God has blessed her with a fulfilling life as mother and grandmother.” God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He has never left her, and she now in the presence of Christ her Savior and with her precious husband. Raydean is preceded in death by her husband, James Elliott Damon, daughter, Cynthia Kay Damon, parents, Raymond Wayne Brown and Myrtle Brown; In-laws, James L. and Hilda Damon; brother, Robert Wayne Brown, brother-in-law, Jerry Damon and wife, Greta; sister, Evelyn Janette Bailes, Son-in-law, Harlan Burgess.
Survivors include her daughter, Jamie L. Burnett and husband, Keith; grandson, Monty Damon Burgess; sister, Ruth Shook and husband, Larry; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Crawford Methodist Church, Crawford Community Cemetery, and Crawford Historical Society.
