

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rodney Wayne Gromatzky. He suffered for three years with Lewy Body dementia. He was a wonderful father, educator and a generous kind soul. He was 69 years and five months when he passed on July 17, 2025. Rodney was born in Clifton, Texas on January 30, 1956 to JoAnn Pierson and Fred Gromatzky. Rodney joined the Army and was stationed in Germany while married to his first wife, Karen. Rodney was a hard worker and held several different kinds of jobs from a manager of a pizza restaurant, foreman of construction, police officer, chef, teacher and administrator of education.
Rodney served as a police officer in Del Rio and Hico, Texas. He worked for Brown and Root while building the nuclear reactor near Glen Rose. He graduated from Tarelton State University and later went back and got a masters in education. He loved golf, gunsmithing and cooking. While working in Del Rio, he met and married Anita Golden. They had two children, Sean and Cathy. While at Tarelton, he met his soulmate, Judy Reed. The two were married in August of 1991. They blended their families with Judy's two children, Crystal and Trey and moved to McGregor, Texas. Rodney was a Home Economics, and biology teacher from 1994-2005 at McGregor High school. He then went on to teach in Marlin and was an Assistant principal at Marlin ISD.
Rodney was a Scottish Rites Master Mason and a Shriner. He believed in giving back to the community and worked to help the needy. Rodney a devoted husband/son/brother, cherished by his family and loved by generations of students and colleagues whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his devoted wife of almost 34 years, Judy, his children, Sean Gromatzky, Crystal Weidner and husband Randall, Trey Crawford and wife Joy, and Cathy Gromatzky, his sister Tracy and brother Greg and four nieces and nephews. He was blessed to be Papaw to eight grandchildren, Lane, Joseph, Aiden, Kyle, Cassidy, Jackson, Katy, and Connor.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on July 26th at College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor. The family thanks everyone for their love and support during this time.
