

Friday, April 4, in her home surrounded by her children and loved
ones. The funeral services will be held at Coles Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor, Texas on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Mike Perryman officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery. Visitation will be April 8, 2014 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Home.
Sue was born March 25, 1922 to Altha Virginia Oldham and John
Newton Bowland in Brookhaven, Texas, one of eight children and
attend Nolanville school. She was a member of the Christadelphian
Church in San Saba, Texas.
On December 12, 1940 she married J.P. Ross in Belton, Texas and
was married for 69 years. They spent their early married life farming in Brookhaven, Belton, Raymonville, Gatesville, and McGregor
before settling down in Moody where they lived for 64 years.
Sue was a leader in 4-H Clubs, Home Demonstration Club, and Ladies Auxillary Volunteer Fire Department. She and J.P. were instrumental in organizing the Moody EMT in the early 1960’s.
Sue’s greatest love was music, playing the guitar, fiddle and singing at the country Music jamborees, nursing homes and special events.
Sue and J.P. sang with the former Ralph and Lorene Henderson of Little River. They were known as “The Young at Heart”, entertaining groups in the surrounding areas. Over the years, Sue taught guitar lessons to children of all ages in the Moody area, as well as her grandchildren.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Ross. Survivors include two sons, David Ross and wife Rita of Waco, Tommy Ross and the former Patricia Ross of Troy; two daughters, Mary Sue Ross of Moody and Betsy Ross Brewer and husband, Alan, of College Station; one sister Louise Bowland Greer of Lampasas. The joy of Sue’s life were her seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of ST-4 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, and Providence Hospice of Waco -- especially Ronnie, Trina and Cathy. A special thank you to Joyce Dodge, Fran Rodriguez, Sonya Chavarria and Jo Harrison for their loving care to Sue.
For those desiring, the family has suggested in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to Providence Hospice of Waco, the Moody Cemetery Association, or the Moody Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad.
