Born on January 29, 1935, in Caroline County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Andrew Broaddus Jones, Sr. and Pearl Lennon Campbell. In 1957, he graduated from the University of Richmond and married his high school sweetheart, Patricia W. Smith.
A.B. served in the United States Navy for four years as a Lieutenant. Following his military service, he began a successful career as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch, where he worked for 33 years.
He was a devoted member of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church, where he faithfully prepared the monthly Men’s Breakfast for over 30 years. Known for his gourmet cooking and warm hospitality, he brought people together through both food and fellowship. A.B. was also deeply engaged in his community, serving as President of his neighborhood civic association and participating in numerous volunteer efforts throughout his life. He was a 50-year member of Richmond Masonic Lodge #10, where he served as Master in 1987.
A.B. lived a full and active life, enjoying many hobbies and talents including hunting, fishing, golfing, poker, woodworking, and gardening. A lifelong learner, he especially cherished time spent teaching his grandchildren life lessons. Known for his humor and curiosity, he enjoyed asking them philosophical questions such as, “How long is a string?” He took each of his seven grandchildren on a "anywhere in the world you want to go" trip when they turned 13, to encourage a lifelong interest in travel and adventure.
He was a devoted husband, wise grandfather, and loyal friend who never met a stranger. His wit, intellect, and service to others honor a life well lived.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Patricia (“Honey”); his daughters, Kimberly Penney (Seth), Courtnie Burrell (Wayne), and Andrea Cheek (Graham); his seven grandchildren, Lauryn Knobel, Haley Cook, McKenzie Longchamps, Davis Walker, Mallory Anderson, Patrick Cheek, and Grayson Cheek; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Walker Jones (“R.W.”) and Tom Floyd Jones.
