Bernice "Nannie" Gay Abele

Her beloved husband, William Edwin Abele; her son, Leonard Bronson Abele; and her great-granddaughter, Sophia Sheets preceded her in death.

Bernice leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her sisters, Audrey Bunch and Ann Cutright; her children, Gary Abele, Jeff Abele, Kelly Schmudlach, and Stephanie Carter; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all those who were blessed to know and love her. Her kindness, strength, and devotion to her family created a legacy that will continue through the generations she so dearly loved.

Family and friends are invited to attend Bernice's visitation at Woody Funeral Home – Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 2pm - 4pm and again from 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel. A graveside service will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, VA 23069.
