Beryl Frances Boltz Wornom, 83, of Henrico County, VA, took the hand of Jesus on Friday, September 29, 2023. A lifelong resident of the Richmond area, Beryl was raised on Fulton Hill as the only child of Charles and Frances Boltz. She grew up playing outdoor sports with her friends and spending time at 'The Hut." In her teenage years, she took up dance lessons at the Chapman Dance Studio where she learned ballet, jazz, tap and toe tap, and baton twirling. These skills were showcased in a number of recitals, as well as several parades in downtown Richmond. She graduated from John Marshall High School.
Being a devoted Christian, her children were taught the importance of loving Jesus, praying, and reading the Bible. Beryl offered her services to multiple churches over the course of her life. At Tabernacle Baptist Church, she worked as a secretary for many years, then continued her service as secretary at Epiphany Lutheran Church for nineteen more years before retiring. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for almost sixty years, where she worked in the nursery nearly every Sunday caring for the babies, participated in Women's Missionary Fellowship, and attended several Women's Bible Studies.
Beryl collected a number of hobbies over the years. She learned to make leather purses, cross-stitch and knit, crochet afghans, and scrapbook. Her bookshelves were lined with mystery fiction, crosswords, word searches, and board games. She loved listening to gospel and classical music, and of course, Elvis Presley. Anyone who knew her knew Beryl was an avid fan of Elvis. She saw him in concert several times and traveled to Graceland twice with fellow members of the TCB Elvis Presley fan club. In later years, she looked forward to meeting with the group each week for lunch.
As a mother and grandmother, Beryl found joy in spending time with her family, taking special pride in seeing her granddaughters play in the school orchestra. She was a lover of dogs and had many faithful pets. Her love was not limited to family; she had friendships that lasted for decades. Christmas was her favorite time of year, as she enjoyed shopping and giving presents. Friends and family often received greeting cards for every holiday and congratulations for any accomplishment.
Beryl was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Kelly and Sara King; her son-in-law Charles King; and her beloved granddaughters, Rachel and Samantha King. She also leaves behind her faithful companion Sarge. She will be missed greatly, but we are thankful that God will keep her safe, and we will see her again someday.
The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116 on Wednesday, October 11th from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3601 Monument Ave., Richmond, VA 23230 on Thursday, October 12th at 11 AM. Interment will follow the reception at the church in the Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Richmond SPCA.
