To say he was a one of a kind is an understatement. It’s also an understatement to say he knew how to live and had a wonderful life. As a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, coworker and neighbor he was simply the best. He gave his all to those he loved and set the most wonderful example possible for how to be a genuinely good person.
His children learned countless life lessons, skills and values from him: kindness, patience, honesty, obedience, humor, grit, resolve and decisiveness to name a few, all while knowing that his love was unconditional.
He wore many hats: mechanic, race car builder (and sometimes driver), demolition derby driver and enthusiast, NASCAR fan, Freemason, manager, salvage officianado (junk man), welder and chief political commentator. He was a one-stop shop for all things he thought you needed to know and very generously shared his knowledge, opinions and sometimes completely made-up facts with all who would listen. His loved ones will forever miss his booming voice saying, “let me tell you something…”.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Linda, who passed in 2011 and was missed by Charles each and every day since. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Scott (Jeff Miller); son, Charles (Susan) Scott; grandchildren, Casey Mayhew, Malyn (Zach) Edwards, Scott Firestone, Max and Monroe Scott; great grandchildren, J.R. and Linda Wootten, Georgia, Millie and Everett Edwards; brother, Michael, and many nieces, nephews and friends. We will all miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 18th, which would have been his 85th birthday, at 2:00 p.m. at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd, Hanover, Virginia. Following the graveside service, the family will invite friends to continue the celebration of Charles’ life at a gathering at his home in Mechanicsville.
