Born in Ohio on October 20, 1957, Charlotte was a loving mother, grandmother ("YiaYia"), daughter, sister, and friend whose strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family defined her life. She had a generous heart and a nurturing spirit, always placing the needs of others before her own.
Charlotte dedicated most of her life to raising and caring for children. As a stay-at-home mother, she lovingly devoted herself to her family and took immense pride in being present for her children as they grew. Her love for children extended beyond her own family, as she spent many years caring for and watching other children as well. Charlotte had a special gift for making children feel safe, loved, and valued, and she found great joy in helping them learn, grow, and thrive. Her kindness, patience, and warm presence left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Anyone who knew Charlotte knew of her love for crabs and ice-cold soda. Whether it was a special occasion or an ordinary day, she was always ready to enjoy her favorite meal with the people she loved most. It was one of the many simple joys that brought a smile to her face and created lasting memories for her family and friends.
Charlotte's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Jennifer Arrington (Brian), Jody Saunders (Jerry), and Jason Kennedy (Michelle). She was an immensely proud grandmother to Makayla, Lynden, Madison, Abby, Mason, and Alex, who were the light of her life and brought her endless joy.
She is survived by her loving mother, Nancy Southern; her sisters, Donna Blount and Lynn Radermacher; and her brother, Dana Southern. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nick Tsapelas; her father, Albert Southern; and her brothers, Timmy Southern and Greg Southern.
Charlotte's legacy is one of love, sacrifice, and devotion to family. She taught those around her the importance of kindness, compassion, and putting others first. Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in the memories she leaves behind and the lasting impact she made on the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know and love her.
While her family mourns her loss, they find tremendous comfort in knowing that Charlotte is no longer suffering from the chronic illness she courageously battled for many years. Her strength and resilience throughout that journey were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home – Atlee Chapel, located at 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Charlotte’s memory and pay their respects.
The family appreciates the love, prayers, and support received during this difficult time.
