This was when cullen helped me move out of my dorm freshmen year and I had bought us subway right afterwards.

This was band camp before 9th grade I took this photo and made a cut out and would take pictures and put his face on everyone’s head and we thought it was the funniest thing. 

I’ve known Cullen for a very long time he was like a brother to me. He was a very funny and caring person. He would always make sure everyone else was alright before himself. One of my favorite things to do was to make Cullen laugh and nothing can go wrong when you get a good ole Papa Newby smile and laugh. You were the best and a true Homie G ( it’s what we called each other.) I’ll always remember and cherish the great memories we had together. Love you man 

I’ve known cullen for a long time he was like a brother to me. He was always down for an adventure. He was a very caring and loving person and made sure everyone was alright before he was. Cullen was one of my best friends and he was always down to do anything, didn’t matter what it was or where it would be he was always down for an adventure.  I’ve known cullen for a long time and he was a very kind and caring person he always made sure everyone was okay around him and always brought a smile to my face. I’ll never forget the times we shared together. We love you forever Cullen, fly high.

This was last summer when we took a trip to Puerto Rico and we had gone on an LED kayak tour around the San Juan, it was such a cool experience and we all had so much fun.

Me and cullen were always grubbin, this time it was at Cracker Barrel up near Bryce Resort after a long day on the slopes.

One of the many times we went snowboarding, me and cullen always tried to get out on the slopes a few times a season.

This was our graduation day we were so happy to finally be done with highschool and were excited for the next chapter. 

Me and cullen were always big into biking so we’d spend a lot of time outside and I remember this day we had stopped to take some pictures of our bikes and a resident who lived in the neighborhood had gotten really upset at us for taking up her street, we thought it was super funny we were just laughing and having a good time.

This is one of the many pics we have of us from band but I remember this particular band class we only messed around we had so much fun.

This was when me and cullen had our Eagle Scout court of honor, we had decided to do a joint court of honor since we had always gone through scouts together we were super excited to get our Eagle Scout rank together.

This was last summer when me and cullen took a trip to Orlando and we had ate at a really nice restaurant, and I remember we kept trying to finish our waters before the waiter would come back little did we know we wouldn’t be able to finish them because he kept filling it up every single second he walked by. 

From last year at about this time. Got him to smile while I took a picture, which was a major feat! 

Mike, our thoughts and prayers at Coker Group and several of us that regularly work with you, are with you at this time. We are heartbroken at your loss and will continue to pray as you and your entire family mourn this loss.

The more time that my family and I spent with Cullen, the easier it was to see past his reserved demeanor and gain insight into who he was as a person. Cullen was caring and thoughtful — someone who cared about people, someone who loved to serve others, and someone who had a great sense of humor. I especially remember seeing his eyes light up when he talked about Fire and EMT training and how excited he was to be able to help people. He was so sweet to our son Henry. And I was even able to get him to crack a smile for a few pictures last year, which maybe I will share later. 

I could keep going. There is so much more that I could say because we have some great memories of him.  But I also know that there is so much more that my words cannot adequately express.

Our whole family is truly saddened by this loss, and our hearts and our prayers are with the Newby family and all of his friends. 

Cullen was and will always be the most amazing, sweet, and unforgettable person I’ve ever met. He truly left his mark on every single person he came in contact with. He was the most trustworthy person I’ve ever had in my life. His loving, fun personality always drew everybody in. He really inspired me by the way he wanted to help people. He always put everybody before himself. The drive he had to be a fire fighter and save people was by far the coolest thing ever. I remember when he first got his certificate for EMT and made me pretend like I was a “hurt old women” just so he could practice being an EMT on me. He wore his firefighter hat for days straight after he got it just because he loved it so much. He was such a driven person. Cullen changed my life in many different aspects. He taught me many different things that I will never forget and he never failed to reassure me when I got lost of who I was. He was such a fun person to be around and he loved everyone around him endlessly. I’m so lucky I got to know him. He will forever have a huge place in my heart. Sending so many prayers to your family and friends.

When I first entered middle school, Cullen was the first person I met who I really connected to. Our little friend group then felt at our best when we were all together, and Cullen couldn't help but make everybody laugh when he had the chance. When he smiled, it was impossible not to smile with him. We grew together through high school, and from that I can promise you that the world has lost one of its kindest and most genuine souls. But I know that in the same way he only ever wanted to spread joy, Cullen would want us to remember him happily and keep his high spirits in our hearts. So I'm glad to have known you, Cullen. You live on through myself and everybody else as we continue to remember how much of a better place you made this world.

I’ve been lucky enough to know Cullen for most of my life. Our mothers are friends and have been for many years, so we’ve been friends since elementary school. In high school I really began to appreciate me and  Cullen’s friendship- I realized how genuine and caring he is. When you’re a teenager, this is a very valuable thing to find in a friend. I have always respected Cullen immensely, something I’m not sure he knew. I truly believe he is one of the best people I have ever had the honor of knowing.

My deepest condolences to the Newby family. 

I knew Cullen from my French II class, and ever since then he's been a stand-up guy. I wouldn't lie and say he hasn't done and shared his deed of misfortunes, but who hasn't, no one is a saint, but Cullen always tried to stand-up for what he saw right. Even if he was caught with some trouble Cullen would take full frontal responsibility, he never pin the blame on another person, and I believe that is what makes a good man into a great man. I know now Cullen is living his next best life, the one I'll be able to see him again in and I'm happy to say I knew him, and happier to see him again sometime.
