He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Newton Mathews, Sr. and Ellen Mathews Barksdale and his sister, Linda M. Pendergast.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Mathews and her children, Judy Jeffcoat (Brian), Curt Tinsley (Christie), Marvin Meeks (Shannon) and 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jean M. Spicer.
There will be a visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery, 5146 Mechanicsville Tpke., Mechanicsville, VA.
