RICHMOND, VA – GEORGE POWELL HAMBLETON, SR., age 88, of Richmond, died Friday, July 29, 2016 at his residence. George was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. George later worked for the Virginia Department of Corrections, retiring as a Probation Officer after many years of faithful service.
He is survived by his son, George Hambleton Jr. of Richmond; step-daughter, Barbara Justice of Powhatan; and sister Winifred Doboy of Richmond.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hambleton.
Memorial Visitation for George Powell Hambleton, Sr., will be held Friday, August 5, 2016, 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Woody Funeral Home – Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23220.
