She was preceded in death by her parents, Pendleton Burruss Smith and Ellen Roy Allen Smith and her son, Robert Alan Lane.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Burruss Lane (Ginger) and Stuart Todd Lane (Kathy); daughter in law, Debra Carter Lane; four grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer), Becky (Mike), Andrea (Jamie) and Rob; seven great-grandchildren, Pelham, Kemper, Grace, Caroline, Maggie, Mosby and Brady; also a devoted cousin, Helen Hans Johnson (Allen).
Gloria or “Glo” to her close friends, was a spitfire. Her laugh was infectious and she loved to tell a good story (and loved to hear one, too).
She was a master gardener; involved in numerous civic organizations; attended Carmel Baptist Church; retired from the Virginia Health Department after an extended career; and was an avid animal lover and antique collector.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to compassionanimalrescue.com.
