

Harold Richard "Dick" Thaxton (76) of Mechanicsville, Virginia, formerly of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Sunday, June 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Thaxton; newborn sister Nancy Thaxton; and beloved nephew, David Halsey.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Janice Thaxton; children, Pamela Harman (Scott), Stacey Rouch (Kevin) and Tony Thaxton (Florence); grandchildren who affectionately called him Bapa or Baps, Samantha Jade Harman, Alec Harman (Dana) and Zoey Rouch; his best dog buddy, Bugz; sister Lynne Lee (Butch); along with everyone blessed to have known Dick.
Harold was born in Elkhart, Indiana on March 1, 1949. Dick graduated from Elkhart High school in 1967. He spent over 20 years working at Whitehall Laboratories until its closure, after which he continued his career with A.H. Robins in Virginia until his retirement.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Harold took pride in everything he did. He loved his family, particularly enjoyed going to watch his son, Tony play drums in his band and enjoyed going to the casino with his wife, Jan. An avid fisherman and talented drummer, Dick played for many years with the local, Elkhart band, DSO. He was a devout family man, best known among loved ones for his quick wit and sense of humor. Dick was the kind of person who always had a joke to tell or a playful tease to share, he had a gift for making others smile.
He left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. In his quiet moments, Dick found joy in caring for his flowers and watching his birds. His warmth, humor and kind-hearted nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
