Layman, James Tulley (Jim), 75, of Gloucester, passed away March 31, 2012, after a brief illness, with his family at his side. Jim was born in Covington, Virginia on February 5, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd T. Layman and Sue Thomas Layman; a sister, Charlotte Meadows; and a son, James Wesley (“JW”) Layman. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Reach Layman; three sons, Michael (Leanne), Todd, and Troy (Jessica); five grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, Jacob, Kristin and Jocelyn; two sisters, Wanda Carman and Gloria Campbell; and his brother, J. L. Layman. Mr. Layman served in the United States Navy and Army.
As Jim would prefer, dress will be casual for the visitation and memorial service. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road in Mechanicsville, where a memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday.
