He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Smithson; brothers, Fred, Willie, William; and sister, Nancy Jane.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Barranger "Angel Girl" of 33 years; daughters, Debbie (Roy) and Cindy; son, Leonard "Smitty" (Michelle); 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended family in Guatemala.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 19, at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, at Salem Presbyterian Church, 5394 Studley Road, Mechanicsville.
Interment following the service at the church. Flowers are welcome, or if preferred, contributions can be made to Shriners Children's Hospital or Children's International.
