Jane Garrott Gabbert

GABBERT, JANE FAY GARROTT, 85, of Highland Springs, VA passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012. She was born June 16, 1927 in Jefferson County, WV, the only child of Jared Matt and Elsie Medora Garrott. A graduate of VCU (Education) and RPI (Art), she taught in elementary schools in Culpeper and Hanover Counties, retiring from Hanover with over 20 years of service, predominantly at Washington Henry Elementary School. She enjoyed nature, travel, art, music, reading, and breakfast with friends at Hardees in Highland Springs. She is survived by four children, John Matt Gabbert (Sandra), of Roanoke, Fran Gabbert Tehan (Michael), of Mechanicsville, Teresa Gabbert Kirsch (Charlie) of Chesterfield, and David Christopher Gabbert (Christy), of Powhatan, as well as eight grandchildren, one great grandson and her beloved cat, Joe. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 1 at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, November 2, followed by internment at Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover.
